As an introduction I should say that Selling expensive items
on eBay is really not too different from selling regular low cost items. Essentially, no matter what you are selling, it all comes down to how you market the item. This doesn’t mean you have to
surf around the Internet placing ads here and there when it comes to eBay auctions, the marketing is all done at the eBay website, that’s one of the beauties of Ebay.Basically, when you set up your auction, you are setting up an automated marketing campaign with a move of a finger.

First, you must determine what the value of your
item is. This can be done in three different ways and will help you determine what your reserve price is. On eBay, the
reserve price is the lowest price that you are willing
to accept for your item. First, have your high priced
item evaluated to determine what the actual market
value is. Next, research similar items from past
auctions at eBay to see what price those items sold
for before. Finally, determine what the value of the item is to
you. With this information, you should be able to
determine the lowest amount you are willing to sell
the item for and won’t risk losing money.

Set your reserve price, and then set your opening bid
price lower than $50 - no matter how high your
reserve price is. This is a special marketing tactic. It will be
hard to attract potential buyers to an auction for an
item selling for hundreds or thousands of dollars -
but getting them to an auction where the opening
bid is only $50 is quite simple. Remember, you don’t
have to sell the item to anyone who bids less than
your reserve price unless you choose to do so at
the close of the auction. That’s completely up to you.
This method of price setting resembles marketing gimmicks used by offline businesses that are simply designed to ‘get customers
in the door.’ So once they are “in” you can sell to them.

Work hard on the description for your listing, this is very important.Use words that really describe your item well. Provide as many details as possible, including details that prove
the authenticity of collectible items. Include pictures
of the item as well. Do not try to deceive potential
buyers! If the item has marks or scratches, simply
be honest about it, and make sure that the pictures
convey this as well. State clearly how the item will be
packed and shipped. Also let potential buyers know
that shipping insurance must be purchased as well
in case the item is damaged once it leaves your
possession.

For higher priced items, most eBay buyers feel more
comfortable using an escrow service. Offer this as
an option in your auction, it will help you sell your item faster, with the understanding that the buyer must pay for the service. This protects both parties from fraud, and it makes many buyers more open to spending the money to obtain the item. Which is good news for you. eBay has partnered with an escrow service that is commonly used by many users for the buying and selling of high priced items.

A call to action is a device used by top copywriters to create a sense of urgency for potential customers to request more information about a product or to buy right away.

Although most sellers shy from asking for money or an immediate order, it remains the best way to maximise profits in the shortest possible time.

Asking doesn’t have to be rude, or intrusive, and can be accomplished with a single phrase in your listing or its title or sub-title, such as:

* Buy Now While the Discount Lasts.

* Buy Now While Stocks Last.

* Buy Today and Get Another One Free.

* Bid Now, Before Someone Beats You To It.

* Only Two Left - Buy Now While Stocks Last.

* Buy Now and Get (XXXX) Free - Lasts This Week Only! (Try to make that freebie something people might buy in its own right but can’t because it’s only available as a freebie).

* Put your product on auction for ten days at the same price the product is available from your eBay shop. Inside the listing, before you even mention the product say: ‘Click HERE to visit my shop and buy at the same price right now without having to wait for the auction to end and without losing out to higher bidders’.

* Sell BUY IT NOW but only for products you’ve tested and know their optimum price (the price most commonly achieved at previous auction listings for the item). Buy It Now is a great way to generate impulse buys and can be offered independently or alongside the auction option. When I had trouble selling my cufflinks at auction, starting price

Always look at other ebayers feedback rating, this is important becasue it tells you their trading history on Ebay. If they have numerous negative comments which make them sound un-trustworthy, then its best to contact them first or leave it and look else where. If they have no feedback and are new, it is best again to contact them.

Never buy or sell to places from abroad such as Nigeria, Africa etc. These are again fraudsters using stolen credit cards and if they do pay you, well that money is guaranteed to be stolen which will be retracted from your account so you would lose out basically.

Always email or contact them some other way if unsure. At least this way, you’ll know about their communication standards.
Ask for a tracking number for a valuable item. This way you can track the item and you’ll know that they have sent it.

Never bid/buy from ebayers who claim to have 20* Nokia 8800’s, 20* Samsung D600’s etc (you get the picture). This is becasue it is all fraudulent. They do not have an verified email address which is why they ask you to email them from another email address stated on the listing, once they recieved the money they will withdraw this and close the account, and theyu wont send anything. Plus Ebay cannot do anything as it is too early for them to do anything.

If you do get into a fraudulent situation, contact the seller/buyer, if they dont reply, contact Ebay and paypal, then if they cannot do anything, contact your credit card company (by law you are protected from any fraudulent activity for 7/14 days) Dont leave it too late. You can contact the police as well, they will issue you a crime number, send this to the fraudulent ebayer, they may read your emails but just wont reply, if you show them a crime number, they would probably be scared and give you the money back. Request their contact details as well by searching it on help, at least you’ll know where they live and their contact number.
Always pay using paypal, you know you’ll be covered. Dont use outside companys such as Nochex and western union, you wont be covered.

Wonder why people put a reserve on their listings, well it is to protect themselves from bid shielding. This is where two and more ebayers target a listing for example, samsung D600 with a starting price of 0.99 and no reserve. The first fraudster will come along and place a bid of 0.99, the second fraudster will come along and place a bid of about
